I worked at Mars full-time

Pros

Good benefits and salary, great people, and admirable principles. Exposure to global business practices and partners makes for very interesting opportunities, and training opportunities abound.

Cons

Impossibly dysfunctional environment and bizarre leadership team in this particular business unit. Remember the story "The Emperor Wore No Clothes"? Employees in this office could have written it.

Advice to Management

The low engagement scores and high turnover say it all.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Mars full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

clean environment, good safety program, benefits are average, uniforms are provided for employees, shoes are partially paid for by company, health awareness program

    Cons

Very political and intimidating atmosphere of management, management is very micro managing and not willing to let employees be pro-active on issues. Life/work balance is not good and impossible for non-exempt employees with forced overtime.

    Advice to Management

Stop the intimidation of employees who do not agree with managment. let employees express themselves without fear of retribution. Stop micro managing and let employees try ideas that will save the company money and make things more efficient. Take the politics out of job promotions and promote on ability to do the job, not kissability to management.

    Pros

    1. You can bring your dog to work!

    2. No dress code

    3. The Mars family supports the petcare division

    Cons

    1. Vision and strategic alignment is lacking

    2. No balance between bottom-line improvement and top-line growth; cost-savings and business shaping alone will not get you to prosperity.

    3. Global management doesn't clearly communicate their intentions; a global matrix organization structure within business units strangle regional development

    Advice to Management

    1. Listen & interact with associates OUTSIDE of your department

    2. Use FACTS (not tribal knowledge) as a lens to differentiate what the business needs to start, stop, and continue doing
