I worked at Marshalls full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I spent a year and a half here and met some great friends. It was a great way to get started in retail. You get two 15-minute breaks and a 45-minute lunch break if you work a full 8 hour shift. You can't get fired if you tried, the only way they'll fire you is if you steal pretty much. It's easy to get away with taking longer breaks.

    Cons

They will only schedule one person in a department at a time and expect them to do the work of three people. The discount is only 10%, Marshalls is so cheap. They will push you SO HARD to get customers to sign up for the TJX store credit card and set up stupid competitions every month with childish prizes. Customers were rude, felt entitled and MESSY. They do not pay enough and expect way too much.

    Advice to Management

Stop smoking so much and eating so much, and stop pushing your employees so hard. We work hard enough and you sit on your fat butts and go outside for smoke breaks and collect salary. Remember, ANYONE could do your job.

I worked at Marshalls part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The customers were amazing people most of the time, some rude ones here and there but overall it was great having customers to talk to while ringing them on items. You don't really have to contribute much skill to the job, the younger co-workers are nice people and things move smoothly.

    Cons

The bosses are dumb (highly uneducated), TJX Cards are promoted rather than speed and a high level customer experience (lets make profit people...speed and quality). older co-workers are nasty usually with an exception of a few, you wont get paid much either. Very organized structure with scheduling and a lot of breakroom politics in the back which shouldn't exist (YOU WORK AT MARSHALLS NOT A FORTUNE 500 COMPANY).

    Advice to Management

Put better leaders and you will receive better results, I've seen harassment among the employees (hitting, bullying, etc). Make the store inviting to people, it seems as if Marshall's stores dont care about the people and don't get me started on how stockroom and the "employees" damage every item put up to display. Serving your customers damaged goods and irregular clothing wont increase sales always, theres always room for improvement and with that will come higher earnings.
