I worked at MassMutual full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

-Extreme flexibility (potential con if abused)
-OPPORTUNITY to make a lot of money
-Chance to help people
-Your own business

This is a VERY tough business, but if you stick the first couple years of learning out, you can be very successful. Have a good +/-6 months of fallback savings to cover bills/ expenses when starting out.

Cons

- 100% comission
-Takes a couple YEARS to build business
-Lots of cold calling/phoning
-Learn as you go
-SPLIT comissions when starting out
- ~70% turnover = your clients go to someone else when you decide to change careers

    Pros

    Good Company history and weekly training is good

    Cons

    You are not on a salary or even a draw for that matter, yet they want you to document all of your calls and have a pipeline of prospects and work 50 hours a week. After 2-3 months, they are going to start charging you for back office help and supplies.

    Advice to Management

    give a draw or base salary. your turnover is really high

    I have been working at MassMutual full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Nice location and seems very professional.

    Cons

    Make sure you have lots of money to start. They charge us for everything business related and nothing is free. Commissions are industry low. Set up like a Pyramid Scheme. Management can now sell and coach you. So while you are selling so are they and if they help you they will want to split the commissions.

    Advice to Management

    Look to give new reps a salary plus bonus instead of commission only.
