I have been working at Massage Envy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy to get started, good experience for recent graduates, other therapists and most SA's are a joy

    Cons

Upper management doesn't care about maintaining the business (ex. supplies are never ordered/restocked, heat & A/C rarely if ever are working properly), unprofessional verbal attacks over the phone or in person if you need to change hours or call in for a valid reason, there is a negative atmosphere from sales closing, high turnover, lack of leadership from new lead therapist, lied to about compensation, will not cover costs for CE's that the require from you. No opportunities to advance career.

    Advice to Management

Find people with experience to run the clinic, you have good therapists, stop having SA take client health histories in the members lounge - they did not go to school this and are just sales associates, leave the therapist's intake to the therapist. Be competitive with benefits and compensation, don't talk down to or belittle your therapists.

I worked at Massage Envy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Depending on the owner and the length of time they've been open, you can learn a lot from this company. You mostly learn what NOT to do though. Great for people looking to get into retail store management, human resources, and/or client relations.

    Cons

Generally, the pay is very little, and you would need to be supported by someone else while in learning mode. You are expected to hold all the hats with little to no support staff to fall back on. I wouldn't devote any more than two solid years there.

    Advice to Management

If you have talented people, listen to them, and learn from them. Also, talent does not come cheap, and cannot be replicated all the time. Appreciate what you have, when you have it, not after it is gone.
