I have been working at MathWorks full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Overall compensation (including performance bonuses) can be very good after being there a few years and establishing yourself as a high performer
    - How you interact and treat others is as important as the work that gets done
    - Smart people and interesting work
    - Decision-making is deliberate and thoughtful
    - Culture of peer reviews (of your work/project and of your performance)

    Cons

    - Can be hard for new people to establish credibility
    - Decision-making can be too slow sometimes
    - If you can't fit within the culture, you are doomed (I think this is more of a pro than a con)
