I worked at McAfee full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Engineers are motivated to do the right thing, protect the customers. Pleasant working environment, nice people.

Cons

Lack of coordination across the products results in customers paying for a lot of separate features that don't work together and actually provide the promised protection. Focus on short-term profitability makes it impossible to invest in major R&D and deep technology innovation that will help to protect against current or future threats.

Advice to Management

Bite the bullet and invest in innovation. Right now you're not a security company, you're a commodity product company that builds a security product. To actually provide security in this fast-changing age, you have to change your culture to accept more risk.

    Pay is excellent, treats strong players very well, good at getting rid of non-performers, low-drama

    Cons

    Product management lacks real leadership and shows little expertise in managing a portfolio and driving business results. Good company to work for and has matured quite a bit in the last 5 years.

    Pros

    Interesting problems.
    Good pay.
    Great benefits.
    Good people

    Cons

    Over-metricized, everything is a number - you, too!
    Leadership is spotty, product management is abysmal.
    Takes forever to get anything done.
    Very top-down driven.
    Periodic layoffs based on arbitrary numbers pushed down from Intel.

    Advice to Management

    Just because something is made a web-app doesn't mean it's an improvement over the old process.
    Let process improvement flow from the bottom up.
    Make decisions more quickly, because it doesn't appear that taking much time is letting you make better ones.
