I have been working at McGill University full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

McGill will look good on the diploma. It is a world leader in many fields and has many well-known researchers, which will definitely help with getting a post grad school job.

Cons

Salary is basically a slave wage and we're expected to work all the time. Graduate school is absurd like that and we have no recourse. It's an endless cycle where professors think they own us because they're paying us pennies.

I have been working at McGill University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

McGill still offers great deal of research sources and recent investment in proffesional development.

    Cons

Salary pay rate is recently dropped down to 13th place among Canadian institutes. Once "Harvard of Canada" cannot pay top salaries and cannot offer guaranteed admission for graduate students and very limited funding opportunities for postdocs.
Recent changes in minimum salary requirements of grad students and postdocs at MUHC (McGill University Health Centre) affiliated labs, there is no minimum requirement anymore, so any PI can pay grad student or postdoc anything they want, even lower than McGll University recommendations.
