I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time

    Pros

Salary/benefits is slightly above average for the area.

    Cons

    - Poor Management. Keeps everyone in the dark and refuses to take responsibility for anything. Will not help you or provide you with any resources. Management uses you as a middle man to implement and force unwanted policies upon firm directors while providing you with no help or back up to support them. When there is a problem the first step is to blame someone and not actually resolve anything.

    - Systems use are decades behind. Unable to work efficiently with given systems and often has to serve as IT support. Again, management does nothing about it and leaves IT issues up to you to resolve and lends no help or any leeway while having to deal with the constant obstacles.

    - No room for advancement. Raises are below annual cost of living increases in the area.

    - Very negative culture. Nothing positive is ever said or done.

    Advice to Management

    Start over.

    Pros

    * best internal mobility offering among top consultancies (both in terms of geography and industry)
    * strongly value-driven culture that supports effective teamwork
    * on average very flat hierarchy with strong emphasis on "obligation to dissent"
    * excellent alumni network useful in finding a post-McKinsey job (if necessary)

    Cons

    * if possible, stay away from projects in countries known for particularly bad work-life balance, incl. Germany, Italy, South Korea
    * pays less than other top consultancies

    Advice to Management

Try to standardize operational practices across countries/offices a bit more.
