Pros

Pay is comparable

Cons

Management is out of touch with day to day operations
Shifts are unfair with seniority lists
System does not work half the time
Department supervisors have little experience with distribution
Hours are never consistent
Automatic induction is a failure
The company does not care enough about the employees and their families
Layout of the entire bullding is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Advice to Management

Change your shift schedules to really meet the needs of your business coninciding with employees.
Stop lying to the employees
Admit when you are wrong and listen more to the people who actually do the work.

I worked at McLane Grocery full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

As long as you do your job and mind your own business, something way too many people fail to realize. Decent pay, decent benny's. promote from within.

    Cons

Not really a con, but it can be demanding hard work. If your going to work in a distribution center setting, you should know this going in. Overtime can be a nessesity at time, you should know and understand this as well. For those of you that complain about it, you asked for the job! No one dragged you in off the street.

"Very hard on family life, and Mclane is not very understanding with that. Not family friendly."

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Pays very good and seniority means a lot. 401K match is very good, usually between 1.5 to 2 times match up to 3%.

    Cons

First year is the toughest because of seniority. Your on the extra board to start, which means last minute phone calls for loads. Job makes it tough for you to be there for your family. You run team, so you might not like who your running with. Job is very hard on you physically and mentally with little sleep.

    Advice to Management

More flexibility should be given for time off or vacation scheduling for Drivers. They use to try to accommodate the drivers for unforeseen issues they need off for. But that does not happen anymore. Its a hard enough job as it is, but can be unbearable when your not allowed to be there for your family in some situations.
