I have been working at MedImmune full-time

Pros

Quality of the people and the science is generally very high. Innovation is encouraged and evident in the Research teams I mostly interact with. Really strong teamwork ethic, which makes the site a very friendly and sociable place to be.

Cons

Recent budgetary cuts and falling headcount has reduced morale - particularly at bench scientist level. Salaries based on UK average for each job description so not very competitive.

Advice to Management

Even the most loyal employees have a breaking point. Need to promote to retain best staff.

    Pros

MedImmune has good prospects and a dynamic work environment. A lot of people care about doing work that helps patients.

    Cons

Fairly political environment with poor functional management and lack of 360 feedback results in an environment that disengages good/great employees.Development of managers and future leaders and managers is nearly non-existent. Current senior leaders seem to want to micromanage all decisions. Opportunities for lateral moves are also just not there leaving lower level employees feeling that there is no where for them to go at MedImmune. Reward and recognition for good work is very poor.

    Advice to Management

Implement a 360 process throughout MedImmune. That might encourage some managers to care about doing a better job on managing down rather than up.

I worked at MedImmune full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The introductory courses were very good.

    Cons

Working within CORE TISSUE CULTURE was an experience I would not wish on my worst enemy.
The women within this group set out to itimidate, persecute, and oppress any new employee that entered the group.
We were not encouraged to talk to other members of other groups, and restricted from going to any scientific meetings (on site) mainly due to the volume of work.
Our workload was so high that tempers were often frayed, and nit picking within the group was rife.
The co-workers were given no responsibilities - even at a basic level,
blame was always pushed onto the nearest person.
co-workers were encouraged to watch and report on each other - in a supposed attempt to 'improve' quality.
HR were not supportive in helping new employees in any way.

    Advice to Management

You need to look beyond your own blinkered vision to see how management really works
