Current Employee - Full Time Registered Nurse in Leonardtown, MD
Current Employee - Full Time Registered Nurse in Leonardtown, MD

I have been working at MedStar Health full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Working on Magnet status; good salary; excellent team; people really work together here and the managers work to improve the culture all the time

Cons

there are many different skill levels, but this is true of nursing everywhere. It takes time to achieve Magnet status and there will trials and errors.

Advice to Management

Spend a little more time on the floor with staff. Allow for vacations in the month of December!!!

I worked at MedStar Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - decent PTO (lumped sick/vacation) of 15 days / 3 weeks from year 1 for outpatient network and either 7 or 9(?) holidays per year

    Cons

    - denied use of vacation days 80% of time I requested it
    - very poor management on every level, starting at the top
    - frequent changes of policies that are often opposite of former policies
    - management accused medical doctor of insubordination because s/he asked a very reasonable question in a staff meeting (no one else thought it was insubordinate)
    - squeeze every ounce of life out of highly trained medical professionals and coddle administrative staff that (not all, but some) literally did not do their basic job tasks
    - culture of quantity NOT quality
    - technologically backwards, not just behind.
