Approves of CEO

Pros

The people that work there are for the most part great. Benefits are awesome. The company is generally sensitive to hardship either personally or professionally and helps to take measures to support their employees.

Cons

The salary is lower to comparable positions elsewhere. The chain of command is too large from the development of the product to the support of the product; preventing customers from getting really what they NEED or want.

Advice to Management

Listen more to the employees that work directly with the products. Making waves is looked down upon in MEDITECH, but this is how things are improved - when people complain....

If it was possible to have a Director for each product(s) and both Dev , Imp, and Service all reported to that one person it would improve each individual product greatly.

I worked at Meditech full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Health insurance is almost entirely paid for
Allows some telecommuting past a few years experience and there may be some work building flexibility

    Cons

Pay starts low, so you get a lot of cross discipline hires who will work for less or new college grads who have no idea how much their time is worth. Even raises are slow, not merit based, and are not given any room for discussion. This is justified by them as consequence from being a conservative and safe career for the lifers.
Only promote from within so management will largely be those who have no management or interpersonal skills.
Depending on the group, you might take twice as long to get promoted to any lead positions, and switching groups is very difficult if you're the one that wishes the change. If they need you switched somewhere, they will not ask your opinion and will tell you within days of it occurring.
It is VERY difficult for anyone to be fired short of doing something illegal. Employees will be kept on for years getting equal salaries while multiple complaints are filed against them for this. I have seen this happen numerous times and those people are still working there today.

    Advice to Management

Choose management with more stringent conditions and evaluate them every year. Some people are great workers but not good management.
Be very open with policy and work changes as it very often felt to many people that employees were not properly warned or informed about big changes to the company and compensation.
