I have been working at Menards full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Co-workers will try to make the job more enjoyable. If you make 1000hrs a year you will get 2.5% of your gross income in February, 5% your second year, 7.5% your third year, 10% your fourth year, 12.5% your fifth year, and then it maxes out at 15%.

    Cons

Managers do not cooperate, your manager, their manager, and their manager will each tell you to do opposite things. Management has a high turn over rate due to the stress of the job, the extreme 50+hr workweeks, working open to close shifts, and not making much more than regular team members. There will be managers who will encourage you to work while you are punched out so the department makes payroll, this is because whereas they need to have team members in their department to do the job, their personal income will be punished if the department doesn't make enough. The company is infamous with payroll deductions, these are purchases you can make at the store that will come out of your next check. Unfortunately, they also are a way for the store to legally steal money from you to cover business expenses such as; if store equipment gets broken, you have an accident that costs the store money, you lose your badge, you need a new blade for your carpenters knife, you need a new 'safety knife' (which you may only use the ones menards sells), or if they decide to 'fine' you for a bin tag being up after a sale.

    Advice to Management

Stop lying. If John comes into a store, or a department everyone is told you need to 'hurry up and look busy.' Management starts doing jobs that they never would do unless he was there, team members go from talking to being absolutely silent and dashing through aisles 'looking busy'. Tensions build so high that some team members don't help a guest that needs help just because they don't want to be fired for something ridiculous.

Stop being so willing to catch someone doing something wrong. I kid you not, remote viewing will get you wrote up for wearing a jacket in the winter when you have to go out into the -20 degree weather. It doesn't mean that bad stuff doesn't happen, it means that the team members now watch the 'the eyes in the skies' as they move the cameras and go out of their way to 'look busy.'

Stop ignoring the lower level employees, they are the ones helping the guests, they are the ones selling the products, they are the ones who will best know what the guests want, and if you don't take their feedback you're only hurting the company.
