Positive Outlook

I have been working at Mental Health Center of Denver full-time (More than a year)

Pros

- Supervisors, upper management is generally supportive and understanding of co-workers
- Good culture of wellness, positivity. No office backstabbing or drama. People willing to go out of their way to help others out.
- Excellent work experience if you're planning to go into graduate programs for clinical psychology.
- New Recovery Center facility is really nice.
- Very thorough training programming.

Cons

- Salary is not the greatest. You could make the same doing clinical work here as you could doing secretarial work at a medical hospital.
- Only 3 discretionary leave days during first 6 months of employment - disappointing if you were hired before the holidays.
- Unpleasant consumers, as comes with the territory. Symptomatic adults who will occasionally yell, call you names, express extreme disappointment, etc. It helps to develop a thick skin here.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Mental Health Center of Denver full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some Pros are: Very important mission in the community; Fairly nice facilities; Some leaders are interested in employee development; Community consumers are very diverse and interesting people; Many regular "worker bees" are pleasant and friendly.

    Cons

Some Cons are: Senior management is aloof; Major decisions are not transparent; Pay scale is very low even based on merit, experience, or higher education; Departments and Teams tend to be divisive.

    Advice to Management

This is a very important organization in our local community, so keep up the mission. Don't forget that everyday workers seem to do all your work--senior managers seem to often be on extended vacations or in redundant meetings.

    Pros

    Good healthcare and vacation benefits

    Cons

The politics and backstabbing within middle management. They are eared and know to fire people to cover their own mistakes, and inability to provide proper training.

    Advice to Management

The CEO and members of the board need to carefully look middle management. MHCD could be a great company, but you have a lot of people with stignate ideas that only seem to be concern with the next potluck.
