I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Mostly awesome and smart people but it really depends which group you're in. 24 days FTO even for new hires. Management really cares about making a good product.

Cons

No company culture. Everyone is gone at 7pm.

The average age is about 40 so everyone cares more about picking up their kids then fixing their bugs.

Development process is 10 years behind everyone else. They're still using CVS, vi, and waterfall with bi-years software releases.

I worked at Mentor Graphics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company as a whole provides very competitive salaries & benefits package, probably one of the best in the industry.

    Cons

The Systems Design Division (SDD) based in Longmont, CO is a very toxic & unhealthy environment in which to work. The GM is very narcissistic & runs the division with a very military style iron fist (Vietnam vet). Consequently his direct reports (Product Line Directors) are becoming clones of him & really have next to zero personal management skills. If you don't just bend over & agree with the GM (Henry Potts) then you'll be history. No one is big enough to challenge him.
It's a very politically orientated work place, where PLD's are continually pitched against other. One day you are on the golden list, next day on the hit list.

    Advice to Management

Get some personal management skills. The people are the most valuable asset to this company/division.

I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employee Benefits are very favorable than any other place I have worked

    Cons

Need the best connections to get any favorable growth

    Advice to Management

Too much good intention wasted due to politics
