Pros

I've been working for Mentor Graphics for many years now. Smart coworkers, great environment, great opportunities for career advancement, great vacation - 24 working days! Overall, a great place to be.

Cons

Compensation package is not on par with other companies in the same industry. Stock options are deplorable, bonus is minimal, base salary lags behind other companies', incompentence is tolerated more than I'd like it to be.

Advice to Management

Upper management is driving the company in the right direction

    Pros

Working environment (mainly offices, few cubes)
Corporate culture among long-serving individual contributor employees counters sometimes seeming indifference of senior management.
    Wilsonville isn't in California. :-)
Vacation accrual went through some bumps, but is now back to where it was (2 days a month).

    Cons

Move to Wilsonville and you may never be able to leave.
If you are not working for a big revenue product, get ready to live in the shadows.
Banked vacation maximum reserve is down to 10 days from 24. No more long breaks - take it or lose it.
Option grants have atrophied and MENT is not managed as a growth stock aimed at increasing shareholder value.
Do not count on a bonus.
Employee Stock Purchase Plan has been cut to a 6-month look-back (industry norm) rather than 2 years.
Layoffs are invariably stealthy and seemingly without warning.

    Advice to Management

Fix sales and revenue recognition and quit buying companies only to see the revenue disappear in a cloud of large deals with low access rates and cannibalized product sales.
Carl Icahn might have a better perspective.

    Pros

Very Flexible Work Style. Good benefits compared to Many Bay Area companies. Decent Salaries. The company has a friendly work culture and gives importance to personal time and space.

    Cons

There are not many opportunities for moving up the ladder withing the company / division. There are not many managerial positions come along

    Advice to Management

Though it is difficult to create new managerial positions, it would be effective to find other ways to provide incentives / opportunities to grow.
