    Take a hard pass

    Pros

Mercury Systems’ business model feeds primarily from the military-industrial complex trough and relies on the acquisition and absorption of already proven technology companies. This business strategy has proven successful resulting in a growing umbrella of aerospace and military contracts. Mercury Systems offers industry standard 3% 401(k) matching, strong dental and vision plans, accrued PTO, and HSAs as well as 15 days of vacation starting your first year.

    Cons

Mercury System’s (California) does not offer Kaiser Health Plan as part of their medical benefits package. Instead, Mercury offers Cigna Health. However expensive, adequate nonetheless. This review is specific to San Jose, California site. Mercury Systems acquired two small companies and consolidated them into one building site. Upon acclimation, business silos were obvious as Mercury purchased the technology of each small company and a handful of employees followed, so one team on each side of the building. Both companies rely on tried and true, although somewhat archaic RF technology, among others. Realistically though, this isn’t ‘High Tech’ by any means; it’s model building on dated but proven designs. In this reviewer's opinion, San Jose office is only temporary and eventually both products, and production lines will ship to Alabama site, as Mercury’s main manufacturing hub is in Huntsville, Alabama, so it makes business sense. For serious consideration, be advised that Mercury Systems mandates COVID-19 testing for their onsite employees; no discussion, and no opt-out. In fact, this reviewer submitted a ‘religious exemption’ request and employment termination soon followed; performance issue cited; indeed. In closing, Mercury Systems is a small company with a rigid management structure and dated technology. This reviewer’s advice is to take a hard pass.

    Pros

Nice easy pace, gets you exposed to different fields other than the one you probably are going to school for. Managers are respectable and supportive

    Cons

Can get hectic when new projects start up, but that’s part of R&D so expect to be busy and working on stuff you might not really be knowledgeable about. However you have an opportunity to learn.
