I worked at Mercy College full-time (More than a year)

Pros

I have nothing good to say about working at Mercy. They have a bait and switch policy of recruiting people to work - they bait you with promises of one position and they switch it up on you once you have joined - the department I was supposed to work for and my supervisor were changed the first day I arrived for work...

Cons

Long hours, put up and shut up attitude of management, and general feeling of constant unease since everone was basically plotting their exit strategies. Never felt that management was there to encourage and help with achieving goals - rather they set unrealistic goals and expected you to reach them - no questions asked.

I worked at Mercy College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1) They tend to hire employees from non-traditional backgrounds. This provides a great opportunity for career changers or new graduates to gain valuable higher ed experience.
    2) Most campuses are centrally located.

    Cons

    1) Upper management can appear very removed from front line employees. As a result many employees feel as if they don't matter to upper administration.
    2) There does not seem to be any set guidelines for salary increases or promotions. This results in discord as people with 5 years + experience are supervised by recently promoted employees with little higher ed experience.

    Advice to Management

Have your human resources department distribute anonymous surveys to all employees. This will result in you learning how to improve the relationship between upper management and front line workers.
