Pros

Everyone has heard of the Met Office.
The work is usually very interesting.
To be part of something truly world class.
A nice office building.

Cons

Pay is low.
Pay progression is practically non-existent.
You have to put up with increasing amounts of Lime Green in day to day work life.

Advice to Management

Sort out the pay and everything else will suddenly fix itself.

I have been working at Met Office full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There's a very pleasant atmosphere and good working environment. Lots of people are enthusiastic about what they do, and it's clear that the organisation has a genuinely worth-while purpose.

    Cons

The pay is not good, even for the South-West, and there's very little chance of even inflation-level increases. Programming as a skill is not highly valued.

    Advice to Management

If you can't sort out the pay situation you'll be dependent on people who stay because they like the good atmosphere, so you'd better keep the atmosphere very good.
