I worked at MetLife full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Diversity, culture, good benefits, growth within an individual sales office, good brand, company is doing well considering all of the financial institutions that are not! Each individual sales offices run their shop their own way. I was fortunate to have worked for one of the most successful, innovative shops with a very driven leader. The MD had an open door policy for ideas, questions etc. They also promoted within to provide growth within their culture to retain their talent.

Cons

Corporate- restructuring every two years, massive lay offs. Lack of communication/transparency that you get in the sales environment.

Advice to Management

Communicate with your people who do the day to day and to have some level of transparency.

    Pros

    International culture.
    Lots of autonomy.
Empowerment to you for taking your own decisions.
    Strong support system.
    Fair treatment to you.

    Cons

Slow growth after reaching to a level.
Too swift changes of expansion and then retrenchment.
    Lack of long term vision.

    Advice to Management

Pls have a long term vision and then stick to it. Rapid and that too serious changes give instability in employees' minds.

I worked at MetLife full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

-Ability to move to other areas of the business to pursue other career opportunities.
-Flexibility with work hours and telecommuting.
    -Decent benefits.
-Most employees have good values and ethics - not a cutthroat environment.

    Cons

-If you are in a department that is a cost center and not a profit center, be prepared to work in a situation of extreme understaffing.
    -Lousy technology.
-Politics, but probably not more than would be found in similar firms.
-Senior management and HR treat employees as a number, not people. Immediate management does treat people as individuals, though.

    Advice to Management

With the job market opening up, expect staffers who were stuck doing the work of 2-3 people due to reductions to be departing for other opportunities.
