I have been working at MetLife full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Good benefits, nice vacation, decent salary

Cons

backbiting, backstabbing, political environment. Politics outweigh results. If you are in with the right people you will go far. If you have different ideas, please for your own sake keep them to yourself, no one is interested in hearing them. This is the worst place I've ever worked and as soon as the economy opens up I'm out of here. Hopefully, the toxic environment will not beat me down by then.

Advice to Management

What's the use. They aren't intelligent enough to hear them.

    Pros

You never have to explain who Snoopy is. Never had a financial issue in paying customers.

    Cons

Inexperienced back office can degrade customer service after you have handled them. Compliance is overly strict and inflexible.

    Advice to Management

Return phone calls. Address employee complaints as efficiently as customer complaints.

I have been working at MetLife full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits package is very good. As a field sales representative your schedule is very flexible. If you have a wealthy and strong natural market you can do very well in sales. Lots of different financial products to sell.

    Cons

Cash Compensation has been reduced year after year, benefits recently reduced. Management doesn't care about you if you don't produce well. Only top producers get good leads and services. If you don't have a good natural market of prospects you will have to work 70 hours a week to earn a good income, will have to cold call most of the time. Compensation is taken back if client cancel or changes their mind about product purchase. Computer and mobile technology is not current. You have to pay $13k to $15k per year for your office expenses and you have to buy an overpriced computer from the company. You can't have any second jobs. Opportunity for advancement within the company is political and not based on work ethic or work performance.

    Advice to Management

Your underwriting systems are not efficient. Your technology is lacking and growth opportunities is too political. Company changes business model and direction often and quickly. Upper mangement is comprised of those who failed as field sales people, not a great plan.
