Much Room for Improvement..

I liked the flexibility with scheduling. Depending on your position, some employees are offered a couple of days a week where they work from home. This workplace is non-traditional. Most employees wear t-shirt and jeans to work. The job site is located in the Eastern Market section of DC, so it has that great urban feel, eclectic eateries and shops, and metro accessible. Mostly all of the staff are cordial and at least somewhat professional.
Cons
Usual office hours are from 10am - 6pm, so that is the meat of your day. Unless you live in DC, you can expect anywhere from 20 minutes to over 45 minutes traveling home. Even though Eastern Market has come a long way, you can still sense the roughness of the area, and you should be cautious of your surroundings. The organization appears to be restructuring. Lots of new upper and mid management. It would be nice to see more diversity among upper management. If you drive, parking is a nightmare! Be prepared to spend upward $8.00 a day if you do not want to deal with aggressive DC parking, scratches and dents from other cars, ridiculous 1 or 2 hour time limits on street parking, playing parking games, etc. Work-life balance issues arise as most positions require a heavy workload , with pay that is NOT comparable. This is a non-profit agency, so most, if not all of its money relies on grant funding. In this economy and job security, you may want to second guess working here, as grants have tendencies to not be renewed, get canceled, funding problems etc. Also, there seems to a be a disconnect between upper management and workers. Upper management seems to think all is glorious, while lower tier workers tell a completely different story.

Horrible management is crippling the organization and will be its ultimate downfall

General staff love what they do and are very mission driven.
Cons
Management (including the ED) are horrible. They are out of touch with what staff does and are no longer focusing on the mission of the organization. As a result, they treat staff like they are useless and don't have a problem cutting long term staff to save money (while doubling everyone else's workload). Management also mismanages funding and is jeopardizing the future of the organization. If they have a serious audit they will be done for as an organization.
