Pros

Great coworkers
If you're also a student, you make a lot of useful connections and can get cafe discounts
Hours are flexible and pay is great considering how easy the job is

Cons

Not really any raises
Bosses, while nice, were uninvolved and didn't seem to listen a lot
If you're faculty, or work in the offices, you have to deal with bureaucracy and competitive workplace politics.

Advice to Management

Offer a little more training to tutors, maybe. When you start pilot programs for certain study techniques, follow through and be involved; be clear about objectives, otherwise employees won't know what you want.

    Doesn't Recommend

I have been working at Metropolitan Community College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to teach a variety of classes
    Nice colleagues

    Cons

    Low pay
College is run on 80-85% part-time or contingent faculty

    Advice to Management

If you are going to rely on adjunct labor to run your institution, saving literally hundreds of thousands - if not millions - of dollars, spend some on making your labor pool feel welcome. Build nice offices instead of sticking us in your mailroom with a handful of computers.
