I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time

Pros

Great managers, fun customers, hard working & friendly co-workers.

Cons

You need to he willing to work physically hard. Rearranging isles, displays always. Unloading trucks weekly & meeting regular deadlines. Everyone is expected to work as a team & slackers do not last long.

Advice to Management

Management is great. Very sensitive to employeess needs. They have a difficult job trying to keep upper management happy, employees happy & customers happy.

I have been working at Michaels Stores full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Michaels offers health, vision, and dental benefits. They also offer a 401k plan. Michaels offers paid vacation, sick time, and one personal holiday a year.

    Cons

Michaels considers part time to be about four hours a week. The manager job duties don't actually line up with the actual job duties. Michaels only closes on Christmas and Easter; they are open all other holidays. The style of management varies greatly from store to store. Michaels pay is not very competitive.

    Advice to Management

I believe upper management should not require stores to hire so many people. I do not under stand why it is required to have 10 cashiers or 10 sales associates, but each one only gets 4 hours a week. I think making an average work week 10 - 15 hours instead of 4 - 8 hours would increase employee morale and decrease turnover.

I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I like to buy the products we sell at Michaels. It is very easy to get a job at Michaels.

    Cons

The pay is awful. There is NEVER enough help scheduled. They can (and will) change your schedule daily. You NEVER get out on time- we are there up to 2 hours past close to reset the store. They are not very flexible and understanding with scheduling. Turn-over is VERY high- especially management.

    Advice to Management

Pay people better and treat them fairly, and you may keep employees longer.
