I worked at Michelin North America full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Greenville, SC is a nice city and the HQ offices are nice, pay is good for the area and the workload, the work is interesting and the company makes excellent products

Cons

Despite being the North American office, Michelin retains a collectivist/French culture of navel-gazing and obsessive reflection on problems instead of taking action to fix them. Everything takes a long time to get done, from the simplest HR task to product changes. There's a chance to change job roles but this never comes with more pay, just a different job. As a result, there are many engineers in roles for which they are ill trained (like marketing, sales, HR).

I have been working at Michelin North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, relocation, and compensation for people entering the workforce straight out of school. Training is world-class, and if you you can tolerate the low salaries, a great place to expand your career and bring up a family.

    Cons

The salaries start out good, but your yearly appraisals over time will push you to the middle of the pack. If you want to make more money, you need to be willing to make a significant lifestyle change for the benefit of the company. If you stay stagnant, you will eventually find out that the company is hiring people out of school with zero experience and paying them more.

    Advice to Management

Retaining workforce is not possible with such low salaries. Enticing kids, putting them under contract, then watching them walk away with experience and take a job that pays them almost double what Michelin will pay for comparable responsibility.
