Pros

There is only a handful of good people there. Almost all of the competent ones have either been laid off or have jumped ship. Hopefully, you will encounter one or two of the few good ones that are left.

Cons

Working there has to be considered a sort term proposition, as the company has had combined loss ratios over 100% for the last four years. Layoffs have demoralized the remaining employees. Many have been reprimanded and written up recently, which is the harbinger of further layoffs and defections. Upper management is held in low regard, as it has done nothing to stem the loss of business or the high loss ratios.

Advice to Management

You are held in very low regard by what is left of your staff. Nor do they agents respect you, as you cannot be counted on to keep your word. You give every appearance of shrinking the company to a size that is no longer sustainable.

I worked at Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company provides flexible work hours

    Cons

Based on my experience, there is very little room for growth and no career path strategies set in place for employees to grow. It also seemed like any upward feedback was viewed as negative and the individuals who stood up for the right things were typically suppressed. Fear was a common feeling on the floor and the work environment I experienced was very toxic. Ethics don't seem to be very high on their list of priorities. This company has the potential to be a great place to work, but part of their management team holds them back from accomplishing to establish a motivational and positive working atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Allow more feedback from staff to identify areas of success or areas in need of improvement. Motivate and empower employees rather than trying to control them through fear. Keep managers and HR accountable with checks and balances so they do not fabricate and dismantle employees' professional character. Also, pay attention to turnover trends and ask the question, "Why?" The reason may not be the employees, but with the people managing them.
