I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Very diverse product portfolio which brings opportunities to work on diverse domains. Good work is done by few teams in India. Rest all are back-office

Cons

Hierarchical org structure and the infamous stack ranking system

Advice to Management

Encourage employees to work for goals and vision rather than competing with each other.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Lots of smart people
    Some cool technology

    Cons

An evil competititive review system that makes for a poisonous culture that reward backstabbing and crawling over quiet accomplishment of the job.
A top down, "do as you are told" style of management that does not encourage or reward initiative - they say the opposite but effectively the only way to succeed is to do what you are told, how you are told to the letter and then do down your rivals so senior management have to you the "sound" list. They even admit "managing upwards" is a key skill to success - this in reality means crawling and over blowing your own successes at the expense of your colleagues.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the competititve review system.
