I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

-Respects work/life balance, invests strongly in employees' personal development
-Inclusive and diverse company culture
-People generally change roles every 18-24 months, so lots of opportunities to continue learning

Cons

-Decision-making needs to be more agile in order to catch up to competitors. Because of the many divisions at Microsoft, there's a fair amount of bureaucracy/politics
-Stack-ranking employees (i.e. top 20%, bottom 10%) within teams hurts morale, esp. in high-performing teams
-Cafeteria food not nearly as impressive as other tech companies/startups

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good money, some places have very interesting work, but one has to look hard for them. You get to work with some incredibly smart people, and affect lives of millions. Or at least that's how it used to be.

    Cons

Politics. Suddenly the whole team goes down the drain, and you have to jump off really fast if you don't want to get stuck in sewer for a long time.
Compensation is getting less and less competitive with time.
Upper management is not very bright or competent, everything worthy is done despite them.

    Advice to Management

Just go away, and let innovative people take over.
