I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Ridiculous resources and willingness to tackle any problem.

Cons

Process often is more important than substance.

Advice to Management

Flatten org chart! Way too much bureaucracy!!!

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

When I was there in the early 2000's it was a great place to work where we had challenges to concur, innovation was the norm, and the management was great.

    Cons

I left because I did not feel that the career growth was there for the inside. The company had a serious problem understanding how to nurture internal talent and was constantly hiring for senior positions from the outside. The review system as been in flux forever and has caused a poisonous environment for the talent in the ranks.

I worked at Microsoft as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice working space and grounds, mostly. Good free coffee.

    Cons

Most people don't talk to you (as a contractor. Some managers/employees look through you and don't talk to or acknowledge you.

    Advice to Management

Try to foster more of a team atmosphere by getting rid of the way performance is assessed for FTEs. Maybe people will feel less competitive and be friendlier, especially the women.
