I worked at Microsoft as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

I got exposure to the real world software business as a summer intern. Ideal place to understand the career ladder for a software engineer. Good place to learn and see from the best-in-class people.

Cons

Did not get the feel of a company which i thought it would be when it started with creative spirits and the entrepreneurial hunch. Young talents should be provided with better mentorship and guidance.

Advice to Management

There can be better ways to break the silos between the different product teams.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible work timings
    Benefits and perks
    Great campus and infrastructure
Big company and brand name many different opportunities to explore

    Cons

The competition is withing the employees rather than with other companies
The performance review system is horrible unless you are a yes man to the boss and his/her boss
The politics in the middle management is quite demoralizing
Need to have a Godfather in the company in order to rise
    No organic growth

    Advice to Management

The HR should keep a close tab on how the performance evaluation is taking place for the teams. At times it is quite obvious that the people closer to the bosses get better rating than the ones that are doing better work.
If you broadcast your values please stick by it. Saying the culture is open and respectful and not being able to express your opinion is quite a poor condition workplace for such a company.

    Cons

Traditional Work Environment makes it a little bit boring to work. Also, difficult to see the bigger picture.
