I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Stable company, lots of smart people, decent rewards. I've had the opportunity to learn a lot here.

Cons

People are pitted against one another, the culture is toxic, some people are rewarded waaaaaay too much for being nothing more than political douchebags. Saying we should "work together" is really just lip service. No one takes responsibility and holds themselves accountable, from the top down.

Advice to Management

None. They don't want advice.

I worked at Microsoft as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great products and services in their suite.

    Cons

Has completely lost sight of its original vision and goals. They actively refuse to hire from the outside and instead lean on shuffling their current people around. They hire contractors to do most of the actual work and let their FTE's take all the glory. This is NOT the Microsoft of the 80's. You are better off, if you're talented at a smaller, newer company.

    Advice to Management

Infuse some new talent into your ranks and stop hiring from within constantly. There is so much dead weight to lose! You need outside talent to make this company strong again.
