I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Microsoft makes you feel at home - as though you have a family away from home, you're involved in something bigger than yourself and the company cares deeply about your well-being and your correct placement.

    Cons

If you end up in the wrong group for you, or a group that is being mismanaged, it can be a very hard place to work - this didn't happen to me but did happen to people around me. Microsoft is a huge company so you should be able to find the right place for you. No reason to wash out at all.

    Advice to Management

If your attrition rate is too high, you're doing something wrong. :P Employees need to feel valued and that they're contributing value and the size of Microsoft sometimes makes that sense hard to achieve.

I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

They promote within based on performance. Once in a lifetime experience. Very fun environment.

    Cons

stack ranking. Someone had to lose whether or not they were a good contributor. You were ranked on the bell curve. Outsourcing to India was a huge mistake. The customers and support greatly disliked have to deal with India.

    Advice to Management

Bring a lot of the outsourcing back to the United States. The morale of the employees will skyrocket and consumers will finally give Microsoft kudos. It would be an extremely positive move.
