No opinion of CEO

Pros

- generally get to work with very smart people
- get to leverage many good company technologies
- usually a wide variety of projects available to work on

Cons

- limited in terms of technology when implementing web based products, especially on the AJAX side
- company and teams can be very large, it can be difficult to have visibility at times

Advice to Management

- i would advise to consider again how teams are structured in order to deliver consistent, integrated web experiences, we seem to have many great engineers and talent, but over the course of several years have not been able to deliver many industry leading web experiences within windows live.

    Pros

As long as one can put together a plan that makes logical and business sense, it is possible to do anything in MS India. This is what makes this a great company to work for. Also, while internal politics and bickering are everywhere, performance is almost always recognized and rewarded here.

    Cons

The structure is relatively flat, so cross-team collaboration is difficult. It takes a lot to get people with varying commitments to work together towards a larger goal.

    Advice to Management

Sr Mgmt needs to focus more on mid-term execution as opposed to running after immediate revenue.

    Pros

A safe place to work, fair compensation package, great colleagues. MSFT is still the leading software company if we talk about enterprise customers. While others are innovative, they are far far far away from being enterprise ready or deliver world class support as MSFT does. The people who work at MSFT are still amongst the brightest minds in the industry. The amount of training employees get here (20 days a year) is unprecedented and the company is ready and willing to invest in employees. MSFT is investing into R&D a lot more than the competitors and this has to show after time.

    Cons

I think MSFT has outgrown the size when the old methods work, we have to renew ourself, get rid of the huge overhead we have (10-15% of the current management could easily be dismissed) and get back to being innovative. MSFT became very similar to a Utility that everybody takes as given, so it is hard to be slim and innovative. Also the shareholders expect money and the rise of MSFT, but this is not necessarily endorsing quality work. We have to compete with companies that are cheaper and worst quality. It seems however that this is the market need, so we have to adhere to it.

    Advice to Management

Take the opportunity and have a tough look if you really need so many management layers.
