I have been working at Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The best thing about working as an independent contractor newspaper carrier is independence. You have to determine how you run your route without the supervision of others. This is a very simple yet physically demanding job that is as good as you make it. You alone are responsible for doing what it takes to get the paper delivered on time, and it feels good to know that people are pleased with your prompt service.

Another plus is working outdoors, you're basically exercising, serving others, and earning money all in one task. Delivering newspapers in the early morning when its quiet and the streets are empty is pretty decent and can be a stress reliever.

    Cons

Delivering newspapers 7 days a week can become a little overwhelming, although you can change that if you get help from others.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay and charge carriers for newspaper bags.
