I worked at MindTouch, Inc. full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Free catered lunch every M/W/F (that's literally it as everything else is standard with any full-time position)

    Cons

Incredibly cutthroat business, very slow paced unless you have a high position, the environment is incredibly unwelcoming to new people, HR is the most aggressive and unprofessional I've ever seen, people will seem nice but it's all fake. The company doesn't care who you are unless you've been there for a long time. If your work becomes even the slightest bit unnecessary they will cut you out at the soonest opportunity.

    Advice to Management

I understand you're trying to move forward at a fast pace to outdo the competition but you need to treat your employee's both new and old like they're actual people and not just numbers. Don't pretend to care about people and actually care about them.

    MindTouch, Inc. Response

    January 23, 2019CEO

Developmental feedback is always difficult to take. Building a team that is dedicated and single-mindedly focused on making a better experience for our customers is a struggle that we take on every day. We don’t always succeed and sometimes a MindToucher gets left behind or feels ...

    Cons

We're not completely through some of the ripples of past organizational changes yet, but I expect that to have settled down in a few months

    Advice to Management

Stay on the current path; it's working

I have been working at MindTouch, Inc. full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Product is not "garbage", but any reviewer who would make that comment can stay in their limited role and complain. I ask that you please move aside for someone who actually does something. Indeed, senior engineering and devops individuals are among the finest in the industry. Too bad we're not 100% open sourced, there are some wonderful technical solutions in our codebase. If you are interested in working with Serverless...

    Cons

If you don't subscribe to the philosophy of "don't ask for permission, ask for forgiveness", you will find yourself on the outside of most tactical decision making here. If you expect to settle comfortably into an organization transitioning from startup to growth and wait for opportunities or promotions, you'll be very disappointed. Individuals put into the management role has been hit and miss for a number of years,...

    Advice to Management

It likely varies from department to department how transparent directors are when it comes to the nature of startup culture -- they need to be upfront about what candidates are signing up for. A mentorship program for those aspiring to be team leads or managers would be valuable. Marketing message needs to focus on what makes MindTouch different from knowledgebases. Address the size of the engineering team, it...
