I have been working at Mine Safety Appliances full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits and compensation package

    Cons

The expectation for the amount of work has become unsustainable. Stress is at an all-time high and employee satisfaction at a all-time low. All of my colleagues are looking for other jobs. This is very unfortunate because there was a time not long ago when all of us expected to retire from MSA.

    Advice to Management

Your focus on improving the stock value has been at the expense of employees. As the economy improves, employee retention will become a critical problem. You really need to find a balance between greater accountability and the need to not lose all of your best employees.

I worked at Mine Safety Appliances full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

*Profit sharing when the company is doing well.
*Nice coworkers, many have worked there for a long time
*Management seems to listen well to their employees

    Cons

*They are publicly traded - When the stock market gets bad, so does your pay/bonus. In 2008, when the market turned sour, they instituted pay freezes, voluntary retirement programs, and eventually layoffs. I got scared and found another job before they started laying people off.

*No team-building activities, no annual company holiday party - nothing. You show up, work, and go home.

    Advice to Management

None - my experience with management was good.
