No opinion of CEO

Pros

Good people, good environment to be creative. One of the only studios in New York, so there's not much competition for employment

Cons

Can be difficult to understand some of senior management's decisions. Work is either feast or famine, which can create long periods of stress.

Advice to Management

While is it desirable to be a filmmaker friendly studio, marketing is a specialized division that doesn't always need extra opinions from the filmmakers.

I worked at Miramax full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Miramax is really a special place. From catered lunches and unlimited snacks to plenty of discretionary time off and many events, the Company fosters a team oriented environment. Everyone knows everyone at the small office in Santa Monica.

    Cons

Right now the Company is in transition under new leadership. This has unfortunately led to many organizational changes. While this kind of environment isn't ideal for most, it is necessary to bring the brand into the future.

    Advice to Management

Continue with strategic changes. Miramax unfortunately fostered an environment in which many employees took advantage of the Company for their personal benefit. This had to change. Keep up the progress while retaining the Company's unique culture.

I have been working at Miramax full-time

    Pros

    • Good people to work with for the most part, but a lot are now gone.
    • Good place to make mistakes and gain experience because there are no high stakes projects
    • Cool movies

    Cons

    • Steve Schoch is no longer CEO
    • Company now lacks direction
    • Ownership is oblivious to the business
    • A lot of layoffs due to poor management by ownership
    • Traffic
    • There is now an atmosphere of fear

    Advice to Management

Get a new CEO who knows how to manage a company. Miramax cannot be run by an agent/producer who doesn't really have a grasp of what all the different arms of a company does.
