Pros

* Start up culture
* Collaborative
* Young, enthusiastic and passionate employees
* Creative
* Cutting edge/open to exploring new ideas and technology
* Founders are cool

Cons

* C-level execs not in alignment
* Becoming very process oriented and not nimble
* Execs too much in the day-to-day business and in the weeds
* Too much deference to C-level execs to make decisions...leading to delayed and poor decisions
* Execs not setting long-term strategy and direction of the business
* Creativity valued more than business performance

Advice to Management

Focus on keeping that startup culture that got you to where you are today. Empower your employees at all levels to perform. Kill the over-management and bureaucracy that's slowing growth and frustrating people. Hire carefully at senior level. Exec team is already too big.

    Pros

    -Great culture (for the most part)
    -Great benefits
    -Decent salary
    -A lot of talented, friendly, and inspirational people working at MC
    -Creative group
    -Amazing discount
    -Some of the executives are really easy to talk to and work with

    Cons

    -High employee turn-over/Culture of fear/Lack of job security
    -Really talented people laid-off for not being a "good fit"
    -Poor severance packages
    -Some employees who are laid-off get an opportunity to improve their work - a probationary period, others do not receive that opportunity, needs to be more consistent and fair
    -Some of the executive team is spread too thin and/or too involved in day-to-day versus big picture
    -Reactive versus proactive, the pendulum tends to swing from one extreme to the other when it comes to buying, hiring, etc...

    Advice to Management

    They need to start thinking about big picture, long term strategies and empower mid level employees to have more management over their projects. Some executives need to work on supporting their teams and less on the nitty gritty. I agree with many of the previous reviewers, ModCloth has become a revolving door. They go back and forth between laying off a lot of hard working talented people to hiring more to make up for the loss. I also agree that they need to bring a higher level of fairness when it comes to lay off and praise. It's a shame that the LA office has such a catty and toxic environment too. It's a small office but you cannot trust anyone.

    Pros

    Really great benefits. People who are committed to their work and friendly.

    Cons

    Problems seem to be consistent on the recruiting team. Lots of turn over on this team. Not typical.

    Advice to Management

    The company seems to take a cavalier approach to laying off staff when things seem to be going downhill. There is a knee-jerk reactionary approach to laying off staff then a few months later, they just re-hire a new crop of people to fill the roles they laid off prematurely. Modcloth is getting a reputation for being a revolving door for turnover.
