Pros

Good benefits, company is doing well, nice people. The campus is nice. It's a global company.

Cons

Management keeps information very close. Management is backed by their seniors unconditionally, no matter how bad they screw up. Favorites are blatantly played. The smart people who should be promoted (no, I'm not thinking of myself) aren't because they don't go golfing with the CIO or go to happy hours after work.

Advice to Management

Stop thinking exclusively about climbing the ladder and think a little about the people you manage. Communicate. Look for solutions that help everyone, instead of just covering your ass.
I know, it's like that everywhere--but that doesn't mean we should stop expecting it.

    Pros

Monsanto as a global coorporation encourages innovation in large scale projects, but that encouragement gets lost as it filters into the trenches. Monsanto provides excellent bennefits and the company as a whole values its employees. The St. Louis site specifically offers benefits like on-site gym membership and tuition reimbursement. With locations around the world, opportunities for advancement in various areas are readily available. The diversity within the company is refreshing and well respected. The sucess of the company as a whole has provided job security and other benefits, like bonuses and stock options. The company leadership has grand vision to move the company forward using the latest technologies available.

    Cons

Each area of the company is a different culture. Some areas have incrediable managers with supperior career advancement opportunities, while other areas are more like sweat shops. Flex time, work-life balance, and career advancement are areas needing much improvement. I have never once received a merit raise or moved into a higher position, only lateral moves. Corporate culture is to expect incrediable results without giving workers the freedom to accomplish them. Spending time at your desk is just as valuable as the results you achieve in order to 'appear' busy. Opportunities are offered to select few and there is very little visiability of open positions to those who may be interested in applying.

    Advice to Management

Look to provide the same quality work environment across the entire organization.

  2. "Great company to work for but don't expect vertical advancement to come quickly."

    Pros

Benefits are great! After your second year of service, there are 4 weeks of vacation, one personal day, and the week off between Christmas and New Years. Plus, there are some random days off that manangement likes to throw in every now and then. Medical coverage has declined due to heafty increases in deductables that have gone on in the past few years. Work out facility, clinic, and credit union on campus are also great perks.

    Cons

Few people leave the company so there is very little vertical movement within Monsanto. However, there is a lot of horizontal movement which gives the illusion of movement.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to improve company image.
