Pros

Monster Worldwide has a great work live balance. If you're interested in the job search market this is the place to be.

Cons

Maynard is in the middle of nowhere. This isn't a technology company, it is a job search company that uses technology.

Advice to Management

I have no advice to offer.

    Pros

There are some great people who work at Monster: bright, motivated, and entrepreneurial, but they are leaving because they lack confidence in Monster's senior management.

    Cons

Slow, difficult to effect change. This is a company that ruled online recruitment, and instead of constantly innovating, they focused too much on clients and not enough on users. Sure enough, the users aren't going there anymore and now CB, Hot Jobs and others are providing a much better user experience. It's been disappointing to watch the company squander away their brand equity and market dominance. Just look at the stock price over the last couple of years.

    Advice to Management

Communicate better, build a better product for users

    Pros

Talented people throughout the organization, great energy and once the market leader.

    Cons

Quotas for salespeople are set without much insight into the potential of their client list or territory. Quotas are often irrational. Too often, the same sales efforts are not compensated fairly, simply because the quota setting process is so messy and irrational. Some salespeople make a great deal of money while others make no commission simply because the quotas are given in a range of 30% to 160% growth year over year. There is still alot of turmoil related to upper management changes over the past 3 years and it's probably not over yet.

    Advice to Management

Find out which innovations made Monster the leader in this space years ago. Go back to the drawing board and treat your customers like you want to keep them and value their loyalty. Don't treat them as if Monster is the only option. Somewhere along the way, senior management became greedy and tried desparately to capitalize on Wall Street with short term thinking and long term consequences. Greed and pressure from Wall Street was followed by manangement setting unrealistic numbers for client growth and that pressure ruined many relationships.

Product doesn't work that well for job seekers any longer. Every manager should set up an account as a job seeker and see how satisfied they are with the results.
