Pros

cool name. it once was a great, creative, and interesting player. Still is to the executive team, the agencies that do all of the creative work, and if you are in one of the networking groups that control Monster.

Cons

horrible technology. Extremely toxic culture which is tolerated by HR and management. Senior mgmnt either doesn't care or they have no clue because they spend no time on the individuals doing the work. If you are a 'Yes' man and don't mind kissing ass or being spineless. (much worse than typical corp. america) then Monster may be for you.

Advice to Management

Directors and VPs take advantage of the culture where only the project head or VP are typically going to the meeting that matter. We all know the manager takes a lot of the credit for work or ideas in their respective departments...but at Monster it is ridiculous. There has to be more transparency. Ridicule, isolation, and personal attacks are common if anyone complains.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

    * Relaxed atmosphere, but people get their work done
    * Flexible work schedule available depending on team/dept.
    * Ability to work with teams of multiple disciplines within the company
    * Decent support for continued learning, exploring careers within Monster

    Cons

    * Unclear career path for many job functions. Promotions are often self-invented positions or a move to different job function.
    * Sales culture. Non-sales roles definitely take a backseat in rewards and compensation.
    * Poor retention in some areas. Veteran employees often find themselves drastically underpaid for same role as new hires.

    Advice to Management

Recommend salary review after 3-4 years to retain best talent.
Recommend addition to the review process -- supervisors to be rated by those they manage.
