I have been working at Morgan Stanley full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Flexible work arrangement, friendly environment, no late hours, understanding management, nice life-work balance, culturally the company is pretty well establish and the clashes between legacy Citi and Morgan personnel are not as bad as described.

Cons

tough to get promoted, less than stellar co-workers, protected classes feel invincible, compensation is too aligned to the company and unit's performance and not necessarily to the individual's performance. Benefits are not the greatest, especially health insurance options. They make even people who have no access to materially non-public information trade via the Morgan Stanley system which is expensive and inflexible.

I have been working at Morgan Stanley full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

One of the top firms in the world. Great reputation. Competitive salary for new hires. International opportunities. Great opportunities for growth and learning.

    Cons

Once you are hired, they are done paying you. 8 of my 14 years with 0 end of year love. Decisions sometimes take forever. Company "Vision" is not always clear. Compensation is VERY hard to come by. They routinely hire someone off the street at $5K more than the "expert" that's been doing the job for several years.

    Advice to Management

    Pay your talent.

I have been working at Morgan Stanley full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pro's are the prestige and intelligence associated with working for a firm like Morgan Stanley. You are able to gain a wealth of knowledge just from listening to abstract conversations. The responsibility associated with the job is incredible

    Cons

The visibility from Senior management at the analyst level is as expected. As an analyst you are there to learn, so not much action (respect if you will) is taken to ensure the develpment and growth of the analyst, deppending on the program. Dog eat Dog atmoshere off and on.

    Advice to Management

Management should keep up trying to include all of Morgan Stanley in their surveys, and to keep giving them advice to grow and implement that feedback in their decisions.
