Pros

Excellent brand recognition, great way to start a career or move a career forward. There are a lot of very smart people in the organization to learn from. Good compensation package, benefits, vacation days.

Cons

Morgan Stanley like any investment bank is not for someone looking for a 9-5 job. You need to be able to dedicate substantial hours to company, but possibly somewhat fewer hours than Goldman Sachs or Citigroup. The company size may be a negative for some people, because like other large companies Morgan Stanley has a "meeting culture" - there are a lot of meetings and it takes a while to get anything executed. Getting promoted to higher levels is a bit political and requires you to have a strong network and strong champions/references.

Advice to Management

Encourage more hiring from within, lateral moves and mobility so that employees don't need to look elsewhere. Try to encourage and reward fewer, more focused meetings and more execution.

I worked at Morgan Stanley full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits.
    Tons of vacation.
    Looks good on your resume.
    Ability to work from home.

    Cons

When you support investment bankers you work banker hours. So that would be ALL the time. Weekends? Evenings? If you are building software expect to be on high alert if you're not working.

Ridiculous amounts of meetings. Layers and layers of approvals to move at the speed of molasses.

Also, an eye boggling number of employees exist (and are promoted) due to how they speak of their work. Meaning, they're not actually doing the work. If you end up working here remember to nod and smile. (You'll be shocked at how behind some of the technology is. Also going along with the program is important. It will impact your compensation if you're deemed too )

    Advice to Management

Don't take credit for your employees work. Give them exposure. Have managers actually work. The baloney of "working from home" is great....provided you actually stay on the calls and participate in discussion.
