Pros

The non-profit sector can offer a workplace culture and atmosphere that is hard to find in public companies. There was workplace camaraderie and a sincere caring for the clients, even by the accounting and administrative staff. I was definitively sad to leave this and the office politics in my next place was a bit of a cultural shock. The place had improved with a change of management in finance and it had become a good place to work.

Cons

HR did not take the complaints of management issues seriously, until there was a change in management above this person and they listened to our issues. Pay was low, and pay increases were not always possible, but this is not different than other non-profit organizations.

Advice to Management

Value your staff and listen to what they have to say about your executives you have in place.

    Pros

    Decent benefits, satisfying work, flexible hours depending on your position, good support from immediate supervisors (at least in my office), good entry-level job

    Cons

    Not compensated enough, little room for upward growth without an advanced degree, felt that administration was more interested in making a profit than investing in clients, fairly high staff turnover in low-level positions due to most employees looking to gain experience before moving on to something else

    Advice to Management

    Spend some time on the front lines to see what things are really like before making policy decisions that have major impacts on clients and staff alike.

    Pros

    The clients, some good/caring staff members, good amount of down time depending what shift you work. Easy job for the most part. Good benefits for industry.

    Cons

    Horrible management and upper management, all managers and higher ups are friends so if you have a complaint it never gets anywhere. Company is always involved in ethical dilemmas and puts staff in tough situations all the time. Extremely high turnover rate. Most staff don't stay full time past one year, supervisors are untrained and underpaid along with the rest of the staff. Many supervisors involved in romantic and sexual relationships with other staff and sometimes clients. No security even after numerous attacks from clients on staff. Little to no room for advancement into positions that pay more than 30,000 per year. NO COMPANY MORALE AT ALL.

    Advice to Management

    Pay better, hire more experienced staff, take complaints seriously, take safety seriously.
