Pros

There is potential for Motorola to rise from the ashes and make some compelling, attractive Android handsets so although things have been pretty bad, there's a lot of room to grow. Only alternative for Motorola is to get better or cease to exist and so I think things will get better.

Cons

Years of senior level mismanagement has left the company (Mobile Devices) in a very difficult situation to succeed.

Advice to Management

Please clean up shop and remove those Mid to Senior-level management who have been performing poorly for years.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Good technology. Challenging work. Still some good people.

    Cons

Horrible upper management. Terrible strategic decision making. Favoritism in all promotion and organizational decision making. Used to be a great place to work. It's sad that Mobile Devices degraded so badly over the past several years.

    Advice to Management

Stop using "who you know" as the criteria for promotions / organizational decisions.

    Pros

You get to work in an exciting field, World-wide scope

    Cons

the place is a sweatshop, Senior Mgt stinks and is shallow. If you like working 60-70 hour weeks as a way of life, with 100 hour weeks during "Quarter close" and Year close, then you'll be right at home.

    Advice to Management

Take a day off and then retire. Seriously, if the Board were to ask, they need to be less focused on short-term finanicals and more focused on long-term issues...like developing leaders (instead of going outside like they have for nearly all key hires in the last 9 Years). Just like college football, you hire a high priced outsider, all you typically get is a mercernary that is more focused on pay and benefits than on the culture, the people, and on long-term viability.
