I worked at Motorola Mobility full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The job was always challenging and I was constantly having to learn new skills. The compensation package was very good. As were the benefits, time off, etc. Balancing family and work was pretty easy as I worked from home. Telecommuting is an accepted norm in parts of Mobility.

    Cons

Management, senior and mid-level, seem to have no idea what their people are doing on a daily basis. And they really don't care. Lots of lip service, but no results. Do more with less, constantly. But that gets exhausting after awhile. Easy to bun out. I was on-line 24/7 and expected to fix problems in Asia-Pac on weekends and at night.

    Advice to Management

Get real. Take a close look at your people and what you are doing to them. You cannot expect 2 or 3 people to manage a global data network. They are only hanging on because they don't want to give up the money and benefits.
