I worked at Motorola Mobility full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Exciting company with many products I was proud to work on. It's pretty fun to work on the next cool thing in the market. Many incredibly intelligent people to work with.
Google seems to be making some good decisions (cutting back cost inefficient areas and narrowing focus) to bring some health back to the company.

    Cons

A series of leaders with seemingly never-ending poor decisions. (Periodically some great directions, e.g. Jha selecting to focus on only one SW platform.) Senior leaders and organizational direction mostly ignored the end consumer in favor of the big carrier customers. This continued even after Apple started succeeding in the market. There was no consistent strategy for any length of time. Often, there was no strategy apparent at all.

Organizational structure and culture has been extremely destructive by rewarding internal competition, fostering no cohesive approach to solving many of the consumer pain points. Other parts of Moto referred to the Mobile Devices side as "the Wild West."

The SW org has been an abomination for years. Poorly perceived by parent company.
Relationship between the accessories group and the phone group was dysfunctional at best, resulting in sadly executed experiences for some products.

    Advice to Management

Start over from scratch with the SW organization.
