Pros

The talent pool of coworkers at Motorola was a major contributing factor to job satisfaction. Working with teams of responsible individuals enabled significant accomplishments.

Cons

The most significant downside to working at Motorola is the work/life balance issue. When you are engaged with global development teams, 10 to 12 hour days are the norm. Conference calls at either 7am or 8pm, 3-4 times a week are required to successfully manage development programs.

I worked at Motorola Mobility full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Focus on research and innovation, particularly forward-looking company in a challenging industry.
Interesting advanced technology, with many intelligent co-workers who care about their work.

    Cons

Company underwent many changes (Company split, then Google took over). As a result, management quality deteriorated.
Job security was never great, but has dropped dramatically since the Google buyout.
Used to have good work-life balance, with telecommuting and flexible work schedules. However, new management has changed all that.

I worked at Motorola Mobility full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Flexibility
    - Great people with lots of passion (at least those I interacted with)
    - Good salaries, great benefits

    Cons

    - Unstable (too many reorganizations, layoffs)
    - Too much work for each person's bandwith therefore a lot of stuff was dropped or done half ass
    - Many evening meetings due to factory being overseas (as it is with most companies nowdays)
    - Motorola University was limited.
    - Some opportunities for advancement but not many

    Advice to Management

As Motorola Mobility enters the Google era hopefully workload will be more balanced, in the past too many balls were being dropped because simply there was too much work assigned to each person to be able to handle everything, it wasn't until those dropped balls exploded that priorities were refocused.
