I have been working at Motorola Mobility full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Motorola has many good people that work there. They are hard working, friendly people to work with. If you get on a good product team, you feel good about what you're doing.

Cons

You always feel the year job is at risk. Programs get canceled frequently, making your 50-60 hour work weeks completely wasted.

Advice to Management

Please make sure before you start a program that it is something you feel will really go to end. It's really frustrating to work so hard on something that just gets canceled.

I worked at Motorola Mobility full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Focus on research and innovation, particularly forward-looking company in a challenging industry.
Interesting advanced technology, with many intelligent co-workers who care about their work.

    Cons

Company underwent many changes (Company split, then Google took over). As a result, management quality deteriorated.
Job security was never great, but has dropped dramatically since the Google buyout.
Used to have good work-life balance, with telecommuting and flexible work schedules. However, new management has changed all that.

  2. "No business strategy communicated, no direction, poor directors that are not qualified for their jobs."

I have been working at Motorola Mobility full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -benefits are good
    -nice, smart co-workers
    -learning opportunities

    Cons

-executive team is disconnected/self focused and doesn't care about the employees
-total 'boys club'-no females in senior level positions, no advancement for females
-directors are known to bully and harass employees without recourse
    -layoffs are ALWAYS looming

    Advice to Management

-be open with employees-there are so many intelligent, hard working people who want the company to succeed but run into walls because of senior management.
-provide open communication on what direction the company is moving in
-don't tell employees that the future is bright and 3 weeks later lay off 4000 people-be honest and show respect for employees.
