    I worked at MovieTickets.com full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people. Covered parking. Great location. Good atmosphere. Lots of freedom to do things and grow in almost any direction. Assorted baked goods provided every Friday. Free coffee. 3% 401k, regardless if your contribution. Free stuff every so often (food, shirts, movies screenings, bowling nights). Spectacular work life balance and you really and truly feel like family.

    Cons

For a technology company, they're a little too cautious in trying out new technogies. Expect to meet up with a lot of resistance if it's not a skill in the standard 2010 web developer wheelhouse.

Some departments are an absolute mess and this is tolerated. Standards for excellence don't appear to be shared across departments.

No communication to lower level employees, at all. Reviews were entirely skipped this year, but no one was told.

The process has ground the entire company to a halt. What should be a small, agile team that can quickly deliver has become a hulking behemoth that takes forever to put anything out. Politics also get in the way of things being done - priorities are rearranged to curry favor.

Salary and compensation way below average. If you're any good, expect to be woo'd by recruiters offering 50%+ salary increases constantly. I love movietickets, but I cant ignore the constant feeling of being undervalued. This is essentially the only reason I left.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more. Your employees are invested in your company. Last years "State of the Union" was very well received and did wonders for morale.

Promote young, hungry people to management positions, and remove those with no acumen for management/leadership.

Get the process and politics out of the way. Promote a smart, savvy, seasoned director (you know the one) to CTO and have them lead the charge. Make your team lean and efficient again.

Don't rely on people not knowing what they're worth. They'll find out and be resentful. Pay your people well and most of the other complaints can be dealt with.

Movietickets has so much potential. It hurts to watch it be squandered by power grabs and incompetent departments. I believe you can Make MovieTickets Great Again.

    I worked at MovieTickets.com full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Awesome people to work with
    Challenging work
    Nice schedule
Allowed to be creative when implementing solutions
Allowed to branch to other projects if suitable
Casual Fridays is also Bagel day
    Provides Online Technical Education

    Cons

The amount of favoritism that is allowed in this company is almost awe-inspiring. There are many employees that not only will get away with murder, but get a prize for it. I've worked here many years and It's a constant battle of who ever yells the loudest, gets their wishlist to the top of the list. There is constant work-politics issues going on that halt the productivity of many departments. Over the years employees who are under-qualified have been given more responsibility that can be handled. While talented employees are stagnated and overworked. This has been the reason for good people taking other jobs.

    Advice to Management

This place's entire hierarchy needs to be re-structured. There are too many employees who do not know what their job is. There are employees that overuse their power. And there are employees whose time is completely misutilized. Hire the right people for the job and stop stretching thin employees with jobs they have had no training for and stop drinking the Kool-aid others sell you.
